Our story
It was September 2011 when Jazzy Dance Studios became a cornerstone of something Portugal had never seen before: the country's first Dance Center.
Growing month after month in student numbers and in recognition for its work, Jazzy Dance Studios made the leap to a big stage — the Teatro Tivoli. «24h», as the show was called, filled one of the capital's most emblematic venues in July 2013 and was the official confirmation that the dream of making dance part of everyday Portuguese life was, more and more, a reality.
From launching Dança Lisboa, the event that got hundreds of people dancing in Praça da Figueira, to staging the first Dance Summit and the first Urban Dance Awards, by way of festival stages at MEO Sudoeste, Sumol Summer Fest and Sol da Caparica, the years are written in gold — including getting through a pandemic that brought forward an app and an online dance class channel, and that did not stop us opening the first Jazzy in Porto!
This is a story you get to star in too, and right now it has five permanent settings (the Jazzy Dance Studios in Santos, Saldanha, Campo Pequeno, Parede and Porto), twenty stages (our studios) and more than 2,000 dreamers (our students), alongside some of the best dance teachers in Portugal and abroad.
A story so rich that it only makes us want to keep going and keep dancing, shouting #SomosJazzy at the top of our lungs!
Our milestones

2005 · Just Dance School
Just Dance School opens, a school with a salsa streak. And the first dream of three dancers who decide to take a chance on a project of their own.

2008 · Jazzy
The name Jazzy appears for the first time. After a lot of brainstorming, a name emerges that would mark a new era for dance in Portugal.

2009 · Jazzy Academia
After an unlikely conversation in an unlikely place, the chance comes for Jazzy to join forces with Academia Life Club. Jazzy Academia is born. And with it a breath of fresh air for street dance and for training in the field.

2011 · Jazzy Dance Studios
For the first time in Portugal, two dance schools merge. They become Jazzy Dance Studios, the country's first Dance Center.

2012 · Eurobattle PT, Palladium Night, Sneak a Peak
The Eurobattle Portugal qualifiers come to Lisbon for the first time. A resounding success, repeated with two more events: the first Palladium Night, the salsa party that brought glamour back to Lisbon nights, and the Sneak a Peak festival, which turned Jazzy into a museum in motion.

2014 · Belém Art Fest, MEO OutJazz
The 3rd Belém Art Fest. For the first time a dance school is invited to take part in this festival of music inside museums. The 8th MEO OutJazz: the music festival in Lisbon's gardens invites Jazzy to join in and liven up the city's afternoons.

2014 · Rock in Rio, Achas que Sabes Dançar?, Dança com as Estrelas
For the first time, a school is invited to partner Rock in Rio, with the Street Dance Stage. Confirmation as the venue of choice for the TV shows Dança com as Estrelas (TVI) and Achas que Sabes Dançar? (SIC).

2015 · Jazzy Saldanha, Jazzy Battle, #PortugalFIT
Jazzy begins its expansion in Saldanha. Jazzy Battle returns with a stage where street dancers go head to head. Jazzy is invited to give 2 masterclasses and several workshops at Portugal's biggest fitness and sport convention, #PortugalFIT.

2016 · Rock in Rio, Dança Lisboa, Dance Camp, Kizomba and El Barrio
A show created exclusively for Rock in Rio. The launch of Dança Lisboa, in Praça da Figueira. The first Jazzy Dance Camp. El Barrio, one of the biggest salsa festivals. The KETA Kizomba & Bachata Festival.

2017 · MEO Sudoeste, Yorn Dancers, Humanology, ProJazzy
A slot at MEO Sudoeste with the show Electra. Jazzy and Vodafone launch Yorn Dancers #SchoolEdition. The premiere of Humanology, a Vanda Gameiro production curated by Jazzy. ProJazzy, our teacher-training programme, is born.

2017 · Jazzy Kids Battle, United Krump Battle, Christmas Village
The first Jazzy Kids Battle. Jazzy hosts the United Krump Battle. The first Aldeia de Natal (Christmas Village), in which the Santos school becomes a magical place for children of every age.

2018 · Humanology, Afro Battle, Rock in Rio, Sical Danças do Mundo, Bollywood Dance Fest
Humanology in Maia. Jazzy hosts the Afro Battle, with Blaya as mentor. The Yorn Street Dance Stage at Rock in Rio, with 115 dancers. A partnership with Sical Danças do Mundo. The first Bollywood Dance Fest.

2018 · MEO Sudoeste, Dança Lisboa, Dance Cruise, Pro Dance Camp
Jazzy returns to MEO Sudoeste. Jazzy runs its first dance cruise. The launch of Pro Dance Camp, a week of training with two of the biggest names in urban dance worldwide.

2018 · Dança Lisboa at Ribeira das Naus
Dança Lisboa at Ribeira das Naus. Portugal hosts a Dance Summit. In partnership with Odivelas city council and the IPDJ, Jazzy is one of the driving forces behind an event bringing every dance tribe together for battles, masterclasses, talks and training.

2019 · Pocket Show, Addiction, X-Boom Challenge LG, Madonna
Pocket Show Badoxa, an intimate concert format. Addiction premieres at Museu do Oriente with Vanda Gameiro. X-Boom Challenge, a competition in partnership with LG. Madonna picks Jazzy to hold her music-video casting; 3 Jazzy teachers are selected.

2019 · Linha de Cascais, Urban Dance Awards
A school opens on the Cascais line. For the first time, Portugal hosts a gala honouring the artists, dancers and athletes of urban dance who champion, develop and promote their art at home and abroad.

2020 · Entrecampos and Parede
We opened two new dance schools in the middle of a pandemic. In March, Jazzy Entrecampos, with 4 fully refurbished new dance studios. The Cascais-line school moves to the premises of Parede Futebol Clube.

2021 · The first school in Porto
In February, with thousands of children in lockdown, Jazzy launches the first Battle Online, putting young dancers head to head. In May, Jazzy opens its first school in Porto.

2023 · Gaia
In May, Jazzy opens a space in Vila Nova de Gaia.

2025 · Jazzy Campo Pequeno
In October, Jazzy opens a new school at Campo Pequeno, in Lisbon.
